Clarence Morgan paintings in York College Galleries

World-renowned painter Clarence Morgan will showcase his work from Sept. 30 to Oct. 25 at the York College Galleries. A lecture by the artist is scheduled for 5 p.m., Sept. 30, in the DeMeester Recital Hall (in the Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall.) An opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. will follow. Both events and the exhibit are open to the public and free of charge. 

Clarence Morgan’s success stretches far beyond his hometown of Minneapolis, where his work has been displayed in the city’s Walker Art Center. He has exhibited widely throughout the United States, including solo shows in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and several other cities. Last year, Morgan had three exhibitions in Beijing, China, including a large survey of recent work at the Beijing Film Academy.  Morgan’s work is in the collections of the Cleveland Art Museum, Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis Art Institute, New York Public Library, and University of Georgia, among others. 

Morgan is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1975) and received his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania (1978). His talent has earned him a plethora of grants, including the Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship, McKnight Foundation Artist Fellowship, Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant, Minnesota State Arts Board Grant, North Carolina Arts Federation NEA Regional Fellowship, Southern Arts Federation NEA Regional Fellowship, and an Art Matters Inc. grant. Morgan is a professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he has served until recently as the chair of the Art Department.                 

 The Cora Miller Gallery and Brossman Gallery are located within the Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall. Gallery Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, and Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
