The Donald and Dorothy Stabler Nursing Program was recently named the recipient of federal and local funding. The College received $400,000 as part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Consolidated Appropriations Act, a measure that contains funding for several federal agencies, as well as for location transportation, housing, health, education and law enforcement programs. The award will be used for nursing education programs, including the purchase of equipment. Funds will be used to refurbish and expand the existing Nursing Department and laboratories to provide improved educational experiences.
The College also received a $10,000 grant from the York County Community Foundation for its three Nurse Managed Centers (NMCs) to provide preventative care to patients in hopes of keeping them from hospitalization. A collaborative effort between the Department of Nursing and the York Housing Authority, NMCs were established to create clinical placements for nursing students, particularly those enrolled in the community health nursing course. In addition, the Centers’ goals included providing wellness services to a medically underserved and economically disadvantaged population, and establishing a community-campus partnership.
