PRSSA plans events to raise awareness of sexual violence

March 26, 2010

York College’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter will raise awareness of sexual violence by sponsoring its annual Take Back the Night Rally and March at 6:30 p.m., April 7, in the Life Sciences Theater. The event is open to the public free of charge.

The program includes two keynote speakers, an interfaith candlelight vigil and march, and a unifying speak-out as a way to begin breaking the silence around sexual violence. The evening will conclude with a reception featuring local agencies involved in sexual abuse and rape awareness in the Iosue Student Union’s 1770s Room. Law enforcement officials and campus leaders, including representatives from the College’s Department of Campus Safety, and many other knowledgeable experts will be available to provide additional support.

PRSSA will also sponsor The Clothes Line Project from April 6-14. Decorated t-shirts that express emotions “bearing witness to violence against women” and breaking the silence will be hung in the Student Union lobby. A follow-up panel discussion with the York County Alliance Against Sexual Abuse will take place at 6 p.m., April 13, in the Life Science Theater.
