October 6, 2009

York College’s Office of College Advancement has named its first special gifts officer/grant writer. Sarah White Kurowski began serving in the position in September. She will support the fundraising efforts of the College by cultivating and soliciting individual prospects, and by preparing and submitting grant applications to local, regional and national funders and government agencies.

Kurowski previously served as program coordinator for the University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of English, for which she wrote a successful National Endowment for the Arts Grant for a community-wide literacy program called “The Big Read.” Prior to that, she served as program coordinator for the University’s Marine Science program, managing the budget and paperwork for a multi-million dollar government grant.

Kurowski also taught English at the University of Southern Mississippi and served as Writing Center tutor, writing coordinator for the College of Business, and assistant to the director of composition. In addition, she served as assistant editor of The Journal of Foraminiferal Research, the official publication of the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research.

Kurowski earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi.
