YORK, Pa.— York College’s Jazz Percussion Ensemble, “Groove,” will present a concert at 3p.m., April 25, in DeMeester Recital Hall, Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall. The event is open to the public free of charge. More information is available by calling 717-815-1354.
Many instruments will be played throughout the concert, including djembes, marimbas and assorted hand percussion. Guitars, a bass and a drum set will also be used to play a variety of music from a West African song to a hip-hop style song.
The program will include a percussion arrangement of Green Day’s “American Idiot” as well as a song written by senior music industry/recording technology major Luke Schuster of Rockville, Md. Schuster composed “Luke’s Funky Times” in a jam band style.
In addition, Groove will present an original piece composed by adjunct faculty member and percussion ensemble director Jeff Stabley for five mallet instruments titled “Ambiguous Displacements That Represent the Desire for Equanimity.” It is written in a modern classical style known as minimalism.
The Jazz Percussion Ensemble is audition-based and open to any major on campus. Stabley is the musical director and conductor.
