York College is one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company selected York as one of 218 institutions it profiles on its website (www.PrincetonReview.com) feature titled “2010 Best Colleges Region by Region.” It also profiles the school in "The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2010 Edition,” which is available for purchase beginning on Aug. 4.
“We chose York College and the other terrific schools we recommend as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s vice president, publishing. “We also work to have our roster of 'regional best' colleges feature a range of institutions by size, selectivity, character, and locale.”
The 640 colleges named “regional best(s)” represent about 25 percent of the nation's 2,500 four-year colleges. York and the other schools designated as "Best in the Northeast" are located in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
The Princeton Review survey for this project asks students to rate their own schools on several issues -- from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. York College students again this year commented on the “beautiful campus” that “is a nice size and easy to get around.” This “intimate” size, they say, translates into small classes and extremely accessible professors. And academic help is available, according to students. “The Learning Resource Center is amazing; there are tutors for just about every subject. They are always willing to help and make sure you get it.” One student said, “I always wanted a college [that would] ‘hold my hand’ when I needed help, since I don’t always know what to do. The professors and administrators have ‘carried me’ along the way.”
