York College again named one of Best Places to Work in PA

October 5, 2009

York College has again been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA. This is the second year the College was recognized in this statewide survey and awards program, which was created in 2000 to identify, recognize, and honor the best places to be employed in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce, and businesses.

York College was also recognized as one of the 10 best medium-sized four-year colleges to work for by The Chronicle of Higher Education earlier this year. Based on the results of an annual survey, the program recognizes small groups of colleges for specific best practices and policies, such as compensation and benefits, faculty-administration relations, and confidence in senior leadership. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback collected from the faculty and staff.

The Best Places to Work in PA list is made up of 100 companies divided into two groups: 50 medium-sized companies with 25-250 employees and 50 large-sized companies with 251 or more employees. York College was recognized in the large category.

“To be included in Best Places to Work in PA again this year reaffirms that York College is committed to providing its employees with the best possible work environment and benefits package,” said President George W. Waldner. “We are pleased that those who are a part of this community recognize our efforts and are honored by this recognition.”

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements: have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania; be a for-profit or not-for-profit business; be a publicly or privately held business; have a facility in Pennsylvania; and be in good standing with Commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part – worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation – consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems, and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience, which was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process.

York College will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in PA evening awards ceremony on Dec. 1 at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center. Rankings will be revealed at the ceremony.
