York College is partner in York Business Academy

September 23, 2009

York College has partnered with the City of York, AHEAD (Association for Helping Entrepreneurs Achieve Dreams), and Safer York – Federal Weed & Seed to present the York Business Academy on Saturdays from Oct. 10 through Nov. 14, at 1 MarketWay West, Third Floor (City Council Chambers).

The purpose of the Academy is to offer owners of existing small businesses or those seriously thinking about going into business, seminars on business issues that will help improve their business knowledge and increase their success.  Many times owners are so involved in their day-to-day business operations that they do not make time to learn about new ideas that will enhance their success.

There will be two sessions each Saturday taught by York College professors, SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise), and other professionals who are knowledgeable in their fields of endeavor.

New for this class is “Environmental Responsibility and Running a Green Business”: What are standards for being an environmentally friendly business? What should you do as an entrepreneur to stay current with green standards? This session will also be taught by York College SIFE students and faculty.

The cost for all 10 sessions is $50.  However, seating is limited to 25 participants so it’s best that participants register early.  Applicants can register by contacting Lorita Freeland at 717 846-4600 x 247 or lfreeland@yorkcpc.org

Now in its seventh year, AHEAD has continued to develop businesses to successfully enter into the mainstream marketplace.  AHEAD has aided over 700 (and counting) entrepreneurs and business owners who have come for counseling, technical assistance, networking connections, loan assistance and business resources directing them on the proper course through start-up, survival, turnaround and growth modes.
