YCP was one of 39 colleges named to the Honor Roll of The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work For program.
Based on the results of an annual survey, the program recognizes small groups of colleges (based on enrollment size) for specific best practices and policies, such as compensation and benefits, faculty-administration relations, and confidence in senior leadership. Nearly 250 four- and two-year colleges signed up for this year’s program; the survey results are based on responses from approximately 41,000 administrators, faculty members, and staff members at those institutions.
The Honor Roll, a new feature in this year’s program, highlights the top 10 colleges in each size category based on the number of times they were recognized in the individual recognition categories. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback collected from the faculty and staff.
York College was one of 10 institutions named to the Honor Roll for medium-sized (3,000 to 9,999 students) four-year colleges. The College was recognized in 10 of 26 categories: compensation and benefits, connection to the institution and pride, conditions of physical workspace, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, housing-assistance programs, 403(b) or 401(k), disability insurance, life insurance, and overall satisfaction with benefits. The Chronicle particularly cited York’s employee discounts at local merchants and its program to help employees purchase a home near the College.
“We take great pride in providing a quality work environment and attractive benefits package to our employees,” said York College President George W. Waldner. “This allows us to attract top-notch faculty and staff whose contributions ensure we provide the best educational experience to our students. It is gratifying to receive such external, professional recognition of our efforts.”
“Despite the down economy, colleges are still hiring,” said Jeffrey J. Selingo, editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education. “Through this program, The Chronicle is able to provide more information to job seekers about the colleges that are the leading innovators when it comes to providing a rewarding work environment.”
